Arts Sojourn: The Pleasure of Painting

An Arts Sojourn is neither a guided tour nor a conventional artists' workshop. We provide a unique facilitated Italian vacation experience for artists and non-artists who share an adventurous spirit. We equip and assist our discerning clients to experience Italy firsthand, just as we do, not through the eyes of a hired guide or the window of a tour bus. Although our Sojourns are impeccably planned and supported we intentionally keep the dynamics of both the painting workshop and travel group loose to afford participants as much freedom as possible. Our goal is to enable you to become a confident and capable traveler, even if it’s your first time away from home.

Arts Sojourn has been operating continuously since 1999. We have nearly twenty years of Italian travel experience and are specialists in cultural travel to Italy. We are truly expert in the regions that we visit, able to equip you with practical information and resources that you won’t find in even the best travel guides. Participating artists will recognize that Matthew Daub's professional credentials are truly exceptional among workshop instructors.

We make all the travel arrangements ourselves without relying on consolidators or travel agents. We deal directly with the management of our favorite hotels and restaurants, carefully evaluating the quality of the facilities, the service, and the care and demeanor of the staff. This process is a very personal one and we enjoy doing it. We are very thorough in planning every aspect of the logistics of our Sojourns and you will notice that immediately when you travel with us.

Even the most dedicated painters don’t paint all day long so we consider the non-artistic needs of our Sojourners an equal priority when we select our locations. There is always much for both painters and non-painters to enjoy in the areas that we visit. Our hotels are located right in the historic center of lively towns, yet we personally select only the most comfortable, relaxing lodging available.

We are fortunate to have a large percentage of repeat clients, many of whom tell us that Arts Sojourn offers a group dynamic that is absolutely unique among art workshop and travel groups. We function as a relaxed gathering of friends who share a common interest. You do not need to be an accomplished artist to fit right in. There is no competition and no need to conform. Some participants make painting a priority, some paint occasionally, and some not at all. The choice is always yours. Our flexible structure never fails to attract a diverse group of artists, from well-known professional painters, to hobbyists who are just getting started, and those at every level in between. We regularly meet as a group before dinner to casually discuss our artwork, or some related topic or our travel experiences.
